The Best of CACa: 10 Year Celebration
CACa–the Havana poster club with the joke name–was a success right from its first meeting 10 years ago. Graphic designer Pepe Menendez hatched the idea and name for the club with two serious goals in mind. Graphic designers should meet regularly and talk with each other about their work. And everyone should see what was being produced. Bring posters!
Aided by Nelson Ponce, a fellow graphic artist and design instructor, the call went out to the design community. The Club de Amigos del Cartel (CACa), that is Club of Friends of the Poster, was open to everyone. Not only designers but printers, academics, critics and fans. And once each year everyone got to vote on what posters they liked the best.
Herewith are the winners from the first 10 years. As well, for this retrospective, designers were asked to submit their personal favorites from what they produced in the past decade. Organized by Yenele Miranda, this exhibition was recently shown in Havana.
